Abstract Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of life skills training on suicidal thoughts in students of Lorestan University of Medical Sciences due to the increase in suicide rates in the community. Method: The design of this study was a quasi-experimental study with a control group and evaluation stages included pre-test and post-test. Convenient sampling was performed on 40 students with suicidal thoughts who were identified through the Cross-Symptom Scale questionnaire as well as self-referential and other-referential. The sample was randomly assigned to an experimental group of 20 and a control group of 20. In the next stage, the Beck Suicidality Inventory (BBSI) was completed by both groups. Then, life skills training sessions were provided to the experimental group in the form of eight sessions, and after the intervention, the aforementioned questionnaire was completed again by both groups. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS software and univariate analysis of covariance test. Findings: The results of this study indicated the effectiveness of providing life skills training interventions on reducing students' suicidal thoughts in the post-test stage (P<0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: It seems that life skills training helps reduce suicidal thoughts in students and can be a way to reduce suicide rates in society.
